So I’ve been thinking lately about technology and it’s effects on society. Social media has us all addicted to screens. It makes me wonder if there’s not something in the programming that legit addicts us. At the same time that social media brings us closer, it’s isolating as well. Te
Even in prison now, it seems that convicts have access to email via ipads because someone can monetize email. I’m told they are even trying to discourage face to face visitation because they can charge for screen visits. So tech, instead of bringing society closer, still serves to isolate because the purveyors of that tech pray to the almighty, the almighty dollar.
Politicians in Trumps world worry more about their base that they reach via the media that they lambast but need all the same. The orange goof in the White House worries more about ratings and how angry he can make the voters to swing them in his favor.
Gah, we love the technology but don’t seem to care that it’s fucking with us at the same time as we’re messing with it. When we think too hard about it we can’t stand the idea of living without.
The books ‘Daemon’ and ‘Freedom(TM)’ by Daniel Suarez paint a picture of a hacker/ceo of a game company designing an AI who would make the world into a better place forcibly. And as shocking as it sounds, by the end of the second book it made me wish it would work just the way he described. The paradigm shift is needed.
