It’s my husbands 50th birthday.
It’s my second month out of the factory and back to working for BCD Travel. The biggest difference is that I used to work for an account where I dealt with people from all over the company — all four hundred accounts used our services. Now it’s just a single account. I’m a ‘traditional’ agent with something called Stryker.
I couldn’t stay with the factory. They were working us 12 hours a day 6 days a week. I might’ve been able to keep up in my 20s, or 30s. But a hurt back told me it wasn’t going to work now.
Thank all the gods that my new boss saw me trolling the BCD Facebook page and realized I wanted to come back. She confirmed for me that I wasn’t on a no go list somewhere. So I’m doing my best to be useful.
The way the world is just now, it’s not a good time to be a retiree. The economy is up and down and the idiots in Washington have no idea, it seems, how to project any image of stability and confidence. We live in the Twilight Zone. A carnival con man has divided the country and those of us who want no part of it just keep our heads down. His followers are very forward and very forceful. They’ve been known to badger women they wanted to intimidate because this is ‘Trumps World’ now. I feel like we’re balancing on a paradigm shifting balance beam between Trumps World and our American Democracy.
One wrong step and we’re walking down the midway of a totalitarian hell and half of us will be smiling thinking this is the best way.
Now we have people packing up migrants and sending them north to Martha’s Vineyard. Using real people in the chess game they’re playing with each other in a more direct way than we’ve seen it done before.
When cruelty is the new normal. We have a problem.
