We have an unanticipated week off from the factory….Ford decided to shut down due to some reason or another. When they shut down, so do we.
When I go back I’ll move to the General Motors side of the plant. Our planned summer shutdown is the week of July 4.
We begin a new shift pattern when we get back. Instead of going to work at 2p and being off at 10:15p I’ll go in at 515a and potentially be off at 115p. If the four hour overtime comes into play again I’ll be off at 515p instead of 215a. The big change is I’ll be able to see my husband and my daughter while they’re AWAKE. I’ve been with the company for almost a year now. I’ve had to depend on the others to keep the house running. They do it well enough, and to a point it’s been nice to not have that on my shoulders on top of the factory shift.
It’s been decades since I began my day that early….when I was working as a reporter at the Maryville paper. I left before sunup from the apartment at St. Joseph. It was a peaceful enough drive…as the seasons changed I saw the ponds spew up their mist in the mornings. I always wished I could stop and take photos. Maybe I’ll see what I can get when the fall comes. I’ve driven these back roads around Lathrop enough I know where there are ponds aplenty, perhaps I can get the same effect done for a photo.
I really do need to get back on Meep-Meep. With the factory the way it is, I’m lucky to get enough sleep, before I have to go back and work another shift. No time for much else, unless one of these shut downs happens.
The light at the end of the tunnel, however, is that in a few weeks I’m back to being as close to debt free–cos we’ll have paid off the laptop and the car. The only things left will be student loans and the mortgage.
Team Summa, Hooahh….progress….
I only wish I could make the same cash doing something I enjoy more.
