I remember when the word ‘pandemic’ was something you only heard online, on television or in the theatres. It was the territory of writers and filmmakers and, lately, brings to mind things like zombies or wandering hordes of scavengers.
I remember when we didn’t have to wonder when/if our neighbors or our town will turn from ‘we’re in this together’ to ‘you have something I want or need more than you.’ I look around my little town and I wonder what will the trigger be to turn people to the dark side? Can we avoid it?
I remember this, because it was last week.
This is surreal as fuck.
The regular people are scared.We’re pulling ourselves offline to look around at our neighbors and make connections that maybe we never had time to make before. Amazing what you can do when you HAVE to stay at home.
The kids don’t care, because they’re out of school early – sort of…my teenager likes to try to forget about email and how she has assignments to work on here to turn in online. But the rain broke today, and under the blue sky I watched kids in several yards jumping on trampolines and playing in their spaces.
My police chief husband still goes to work, out among people who could be contagious, and I worry. But like I do when I worry about any other thing that might befall him on duty, I swallow the concern and go about life. It’s all I can do.
The conspiracy nuts — are having a friggin’ field day! It doesn’t help that my fiction-writing, movie loving ass can see their point. Think about it. Every disaster flick or Walking Dead episode we’ve ever watched has taught us how to survive if things go further south from here. I find my thought processes peppered with ‘if this were on tv we’d be…’ to analyze and see what happens next.
Here’s a little mindfuck for you though…was this planned? If so, by whom? Is this some sort of long term social programming and are we someone’s puppets. Or is this all a simulation and is someone running us?
Our reality feels more like something on a screen.
Told you so…surreal…
I don’t have to dig out my crystal ball to give you a guess at what will happen next. The ‘cure’ won’t come, more will die, and the national election will get suspended indefinately. If it’s all about power, who has it, and who keeps it, look to the republicans if this is planned. Perhaps it’s just a catastrophe of convenience and they’re just taking advantage.
I remember when it was normal out there. I know we hope it will go back to the way it was, but can it?
