Fascinations with Control

So teens now know the idea of the Illuminati, some powerful group of all knowing and all controlling types of people…in the 70s the same idea was put forth in a supernatural sense by the mothers movies.

The most famous is Susperia, which has seen a current remake in 2018. I came across its less stellar sequel Inferno recently. This one ‘sees its protagonist square off against the youngest and cruelest of the Three Mothers.’ The two films I’ve seen both use intense color washes that people of my generation would recognize more readily with the 80s Dick Tracey film. Mental note, go back and see if they’re related in some way. Anyhow, these involve a trio of witches stationed in cities around the world for the purpose of control.

What brings all this to mind is a Netflix find I stumbled on that makes me wonder if one of the witches isn’t in DC. The Family, tells the story of a far flung group of power brokers at the helm of many world nations. Polititical and corporate control….

We like to believe we are in control of our own fate but everything seems to be about control. Marketing people operate on the idea they can convince us to believe we need certain things. If we can think logically enough we can get around that….but look at social media. We’re all bloody addicted to social media. It startled me to find that the happiest people I know, don’t have Facebook accounts.
