In 2016 the country went insane. It put the wrong person in the White House and the balance of power shifted. It wasn’t so much that there was a conservative in the Oval Office, things come and go in cycles after all. Maybe it was just their turn at the top of the heap.
We wouldn’t start to see the insanity until the next few years. Women lost control of their own bodies. Those who chose to avoid pregnancy via abortion faced the Texas death penalty as politicians forced women to shoulder the primary responsibility for sex. Corporations pushed laws on the books to criminalize the right to protest….so pipelines won’t see the same sort of delay that they did on Indian lands. And lord have mercy on anyone trying to come into this country from the south…they are painted as an invasion force to distract from the power play taking place in D.C.
It’s all about the power. Who has it. Who wants it. How to keep it.
And most of us just stood still and waited, hoping against hope that the next election day we could put things right.
We never expected that there would be no new election day. We never thought we would be stuck in a dystopian nightmare of our own making and all we could think was – “What the fuck do we do now?”
